About Virtual Pathways

CFISD Virtual Pathways

CFISD will begin offering online courses for students in grades 4-5 and 9-12 in the 2026-27 school year through the Virtual Pathways program. This program is CFISD-built and CFISD-run, with the majority of courses following the same CFISD curriculum and rigor as those taught in-person, adapted for an online setting. The program will launch with courses available for high school students entering their Freshman through Senior year 2026-27 and will expand to include more grade levels and courses in future years.

Students may choose from the following three Virtual Pathways, designed to provide students with flexible learning options:

CFISD Virtual Academy

Fully Online Program

Primarily asynchronous to allow students flexibility to set their own pacing and the order they complete coursework
Some set synchronous activities for each class each week where students get live instruction online with their class and/or have small group sessions with their teacher for individualized support
Functions as a program within CFISD schools (students remain a student at their CFISD home campus and graduate with their home campus)
Purpose: Provides a complete online option for students seeking a non-traditional, online learning environment
Available to 4th-5th and 9th-12th grade students in 2026-27

CFISD Flex Learning

Hybrid Scheduling Option

Students spend the majority of their day at their brick-and-mortar CFISD home campus
Students complete 1–2 classes online asynchronously
Students can arrive late or leave early from their high school campus and complete their online course(s) at the time of their choosing
- Students could choose to stay on campus for their online course and attend a supervised study hall on campus to complete their online course
- Campus staff supervising study hall would provide course navigation and/or technology support; online teachers would provide all instruction/assignment support
Purpose: Offers flexibility for students balancing extracurriculars, jobs, or advanced coursework
Available to 11th and 12th grade students in 2026-27

CFISD Supplemental Courses

Tuition-Based, Outside of the School Day

Students attend a brick-and-mortar school the entire school day and take one or two courses online outside of the regular school day.
Supplemental courses are tuition-based, similar to summer school, as these are courses students are choosing to take outside the school day.
Purpose: accelerate graduation, make room for an additional elective at school, or earn credit recovery for a previously failed course
Available to 9th-12th grade students in 2026-27

CFISD Virtual Pathways courses selected by a student must be consistent with the student’s high school graduation plan. All high school courses taken through CFISD Virtual Pathways will appear on the student’s transcript and will count in their GPA.
